Adelaide University research scholarship pathways

Adelaide University offers competitive AURS/RTPS research funding for PhD and Master of Philosophy candidates. Scholarship applications and degree admission have different deadlines. Project-based Signature Research Theme scholarships, the Graduate Research Talent Scheme, China Scholarship Council partnership and other awards have distinct eligibility and processes.

Application timing: Talent Scheme Round 1: 2 November 2026. CSC university stage: 1 February 2027. Other rounds vary.

Who is eligible?

The Talent Scheme Round 1 international condition requires a relevant Australian or New Zealand qualification. The China Scholarship Council partnership is restricted to eligible applicants for that scheme. Domestic Master of Research assistance is means-tested and not an international scholarship. Do not assume all applicants qualify for every funding round.

Degree admission requires relevant research preparation and a suitable principal supervisor. International research applicants must obtain written supervisor support and provide a research proposal, structured CV and required academic documents. There is no universal published-paper minimum or GRE requirement established from the reviewed degree pages. English standards are usually IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 per band, but some disciplines require higher scores.

Funding and costs

Major research scholarships may include a stipend, full tuition waiver and certain allowances if awarded. The 2026 full-time AURS stipend was AUD 36,500 annually, but the 2027 stipend has not been independently verified. China Scholarship Council university applications run 1 October 2026–1 February 2027 for intended PhD starts July 2027–June 2028.

For a non-scholarship-funded PhD, the official 2027 annual international tuition bands are AUD 42,600 for selected humanities/business fields, AUD 51,600 for most STEM fields, and AUD 54,800 for medicine/dentistry/veterinary fields. A scholarship waiver is not automatic. A separate scholarship application fee has not been verified; check the university application system for any charges.
