EDIH Thuringia - European Digital Innovation Hub Consortium
EDIH Thuringia is a flagship European Digital Innovation Hub co-funded by the European Commission and the State of Thuringia, uniting TU Ilmenau, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and Fraunhofer institutes to advance artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and smart manufacturing.
Academic overview & excellence
Operating at the intersection of university research and industrial deployment, EDIH Thuringia provides specialized academic testing facilities ('Test Before Invest'), high-performance computing clusters, and digital upskilling masterclasses across Central Germany. Centered around the Technical University of Ilmenau and the photonics hub of Jena, the consortium advances applied research in edge AI, industrial IoT, quantum photonics, and smart sensor integration. Trainees and visiting researchers gain access to industrial 5G campus networks, robotics testbeds, and European-wide innovation consortia.
Research admissions & criteria
Admission to EDIH Thuringia advanced technical certification courses, applied doctoral residencies, and digital transformation fellowships is open to graduate students and industrial engineers affiliated with partner European universities or SME innovation programs. Candidates must hold an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or Data Science, submit project proposals demonstrating practical industrial relevance, and demonstrate technical English or German proficiency.
