Academic overview & excellence

Located in the historic Westerwald ceramic hub near Koblenz, this specialized campus houses the Department of Materials Engineering, Glass and Ceramics alongside the Institute for Ceramic Art and Design (IKKG). In close collaboration with the European Ceramic Technology Center (FGK), the campus pioneers research into high-temperature thermal barrier coatings, biocompatible dental ceramics, solid-oxide fuel cell electrolytes, and monumental sculptural porcelain.

Research admissions & criteria

Undergraduate programs require the German Fachhochschulreife, Abitur, or international equivalent recognized via uni-assist. Master of Engineering candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, or mechanical engineering with a minimum grade of 2.5. Design programs require submission of an artistic portfolio and successful completion of an aptitude examination. Instruction is primarily in German (C1) with selected English modules.
