Academic overview & excellence

Tracing its heritage to the 1891 Japan Physical Education Society, NSSU (Nittaidai) is the indisputable epicenter of athletic coaching, exercise biochemistry, kinesiology, and martial arts in Japan. The expansive 45-acre Yokohama Kenshidai Campus boasts Olympic-standard gymnastics arenas, 50-meter swimming pavilions, hydrotherapy rehabilitation laboratories, high-altitude altitude-simulation training dormitories, and biomechanical 3D force-plate motion analysis laboratories.

Research admissions & criteria

Undergraduate admissions evaluate athletic performance records, physical fitness examinations, and academic achievement. International students apply via the Special Admissions for International Athletes and Scholars, requiring high school graduation, sports achievement documentation (national or international competition standing), JLPT N2 or higher, an essay, and an interview. Graduate school admissions (Master's and PhD) require an accredited bachelor's or master's degree in sports science, physical therapy, or physiology.
