Academic overview & research priorities

Founded as a national university in 1987 in Tsukuba Science City, NTUT operates two specialized barrier-free campuses: the Amakubo Campus for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (Faculty of Industrial Technology) and the Kasuga Campus for students who are blind or visually impaired (Faculty of Health Sciences). NTUT is world-renowned for developing sign language automated translation algorithms, tactile 3D graphics displays, and leading Japanese traditional acupuncture research.

Research admissions & international criteria

Entrance examination applicants must possess hearing impairment or visual impairment meeting Japanese statutory disability certification criteria (or participate in designated open inclusive graduate research programs). Standard Japanese national university tuition fees apply, with comprehensive 100% full tuition exemption and JASSO scholarship grants available to virtually all enrolled students.
